One such example publicly lists a named senior consultant from Deloitte, complete with age and job description, visible to anyone using the right query.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why is this happening.<\/strong> This is exactly what happens when someone unknowingly clicks the \u2018share conversation\u2019 button in ChatGPT. It\u2019s a data leak waiting to happen, and a goldmine for competitors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why we care<\/strong>. Marketers and SEO teams frequently experiment with generative AI to test messaging, develop content ideas, or even build outlines for client-facing documents. When these conversations are shared,\u00a0intentionally or not,\u00a0they may expose proprietary strategies, client names, campaign details, or internal research to the open web.<\/p>\n<p>With Google now crawling and indexing these conversations, marketers risk leaking valuable IP or confidential planning material into competitors\u2019 hands,\u00a0or worse, public scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The bigger picture<\/strong>. As enterprise teams increasingly integrate AI tools into their workflows, this development raises concerns around AI governance and data hygiene. While OpenAI\u2019s share feature is designed for collaboration, its implications for data privacy and brand reputation are now in the spotlight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you should do.<\/strong> We\u2019re seeing the early signs of what could be a much larger issue. You want to keep company data off the public web and out of search engine reach \u2013 so treat AI outputs the same way you treat confidential documents, especially in highly competitive verticals. Here\u2019s what you should do:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Audit any previously shared ChatGPT conversations.<\/li>\n<li>Search your brand name with\u00a0<code>site:<a href=\"http:\/\/chatgpt.com\/share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chatgpt.com\/share<\/a><\/code>\u00a0to identify indexed mentions.<\/li>\n<li>Educate teams on the privacy implications of AI tools.<\/li>\n<li>Consider AI platforms that offer on-prem or private cloud deployment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A warning.<\/strong> Olaf Kopp, co-founder, chief business development officer, head of SEO and content at Aufgesang GmbH, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:7356730549618585600\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on LinkedIn<\/a> noted that only a few thousand conversations are indexed, but warned that you should avoid interacting with shared public ChatGPT chats:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cDo not interact with this chats.
